We’re excited to reintroduce a familiar face, Desirée Lama, as the new Content Development Specialist at the National Disability Center for Student Success. Desirée is a 3x UT Austin Longhorn. She will transition from her role as Coordinator of Student Partnerships to our Communications team as a new PhD graduate.

Key Responsibilities 

As a member of our Communications Team, Desirée Lama will develop writing and content deliverables spotlighting various elements of the Center, including: 

  • Create written blogs, feature stories, newsletters, and much more.
  • Support recognition and feature campaigns across Center communication channels.
  • Conduct outreach and develop short-form spotlight content. 

Professional Background 

Desirée Lama holds a Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. She has a strong background in freelance writing, social media management, and extensive training in qualitative research. Her research has strengthened her ability to identify meaningful patterns in human behavior and to communicate insights to diverse audiences. This has ensured that research findings inform strategic decisions and program design.

Commitment to Accessibility and Advocacy 

Beyond her educational research background, Desirée has demonstrated unwavering dedication to disability advocacy through her diverse professional and academic experiences. Guided by her lived experiences with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, she serves as a freelance columnist and social media manager at MS News Today. She also sits on the patient advisory board for its parent company, BioNews. Desirée has engaged directly with the chronic illness community through various awareness initiatives. This further strengthens her commitment to the Center and its mission.

Desirée’s understanding of disability, accessibility, and advocacy ensures her devotion to inclusive practices and to representing diverse perspectives in audience-oriented writing and content development. We enthusiastically await the valuable contributions our Content Development Specialist will deliver to uplift the voices that make success, accessibility, and equity possible.
