The National Disability Center is pleased to congratulate our Director of Research Dissemination, Dr. Andrew Dillon, for being honored with the prestigious Award of Merit from the Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) — the organization’s highest accolade for noteworthy and sustained contributions to the information science field.
“Recognition from one’s peers for a career’s work is the most meaningful honor a scholar can receive,” Dr. Dillon told the School of Information Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is the V.M. Daniel Professor of Information. “I am extremely grateful to my colleagues for their support, and proud to become the first Texas recipient of the ASIS&T Award of Merit.”
Dr. Dillon was president of ASIS&T in 2013, when he oversaw the renaming of the society to increase international representation. He was presented with the award at the recent ASIS&T Annual Meeting in London, UK. The theme of the conference was “Making a Difference: Translating Information Research into Practice, Policy, and Action.”
An internationally renowned leader in user experience design, Dr. Dillon’s research focuses on the study of emerging information infrastructure so as to shape new information environments to augment human capabilities and advance social justice. He was dean of the iSchool from 2002 to 2017 and, prior to joining the faculty of UT Austin, he was a founding member of the School of Informatics at Indiana University. The author of more than 100 articles and books, his most recent work is Understanding Users: Designing Experience through Layers of Meaning (Routledge, 2023).
At the National Disability Center, Dr. Dillon is a grant co-investigator who serves on the leadership team and leads the interdisciplinary Faculty Cadre, which has major roles in planning and implementing research and mentoring students.
