Faculty Cadre Member Jen Moon Appointed Vice Provost

Faculty Cadre member Jen Moon, PhD, is beginning the fall 2024 semester with a new senior leadership position at The University of Texas at Austin. 

She has been appointed UT Austin’s inaugural Vice Provost for Professional-Track Faculty. 

In the appointment announcement, Vice Provost Moon was celebrated for her leadership as an influential member of the UT Austin community, demonstrating a commitment to faculty and student success throughout her career.

“All of us at the National Disability Center congratulate Jen on this tremendous honor to help lead one of the biggest state universities in the world,” said Stephanie W. Cawthon, PhD, Executive Director. “Jen’s commitment to student-centered learning reflects her work at the Center as an advisor and Student Fellow mentor. It also reflects the interdisciplinary impact and high caliber expertise of our Faculty Cadre.” 

About Vice Provost Moon

She is a Professor of Instruction in the Biology Instructional Office and Department of Molecular Biosciences in the College of Natural Sciences and served two terms as chair of the Faculty Council from 2022 to 2024. 

Vice Provost Moon has received recognition for her outstanding teaching, including the Regents Outstanding Teaching Award, the President’s Associates Teaching Excellence Award, the Natural Science Council Faculty Service Award, and the College of Natural Sciences Teaching Excellence Award. 

She was named a member of UT’s Distinguished Service Academy, and last January she was inducted into the UT System Academy of Distinguished Teachers. 

About the Newly Established Role 

“Over 50% of our faculty are on the professional track, and Vice Provost Moon is dedicated to supporting and advancing their careers through the development of community, programs, policies, and resources. She will be a key collaborator with faculty and administrators in colleges, schools, and departments throughout the University” said Tasha Beretvas, PhD, Senior Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, in her announcement to the UT Austin community. 

“On a personal note, I have worked with her for several years now and have appreciated her consistent positivity, patience, and creativity,” added Senior Vice Provost Beretvas.
